Our Preservation Promise
A memorial should not have a monthly bill. When your family preserves a memorial on Altar, here is exactly what that means — in plain words, because this promise is the product.
One payment. Nothing recurring.
You pay once to publish a memorial. There is no subscription, no renewal, and no card on file that can quietly lapse and take the memorial down. There is no payment to stop — that's the point.
The memorial stays.
A preserved memorial remains online and visitable — on its anniversary, in ten years, whenever your family returns to it. We never take a published memorial down for commercial reasons, and we never show ads on it. Not on memorials, not anywhere on Altar. Ever.
Your family owns everything.
Every story, photo, and guestbook message belongs to your family — not to us. You can request a complete export of a memorial at any time by emailing support@altardigital.ai, and we will deliver it within 7 days. A self-serve download is being built; until it ships, a human handles every request personally.
Private until you decide.
Every memorial begins private. You choose when — and whether — it becomes visible to others:
- Private — only you and the family members you invite can see it.
- Unlisted — anyone with the link can visit; it does not appear in search or the public directory.
- Public — anyone can find and visit it.
You can change this at any time, including back to private.
You review every contribution.
When family and friends add stories or photos, nothing appears on the memorial until you approve it. The memorial stays in your family's hands.
If we ever could not continue.
We won't promise "forever" — no honest company can. Here is what we promise instead: if Altar were ever unable to continue operating, every family would receive at least 12 months' written notice and a full export of everything they've gathered, with our help moving it somewhere safe. Your memories will never be held hostage, and they will never simply disappear.
